Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

I give a theme to every year, and this year’s theme is Simplicity.

Part of applying this theme to my daily life is discarding everything that does not really contribute to my one, very personal, Essential Intent.

A few of the things I’ve let go so far:

  • Irrelevant email newsletters
  • Unused or worn out clothes
  • Unused phone and tablet apps
  • Facebook friends I haven’t actually met or wouldn’t trust enough to lend $100
  • Travel plans that didn’t really feel like “hell yeah I wanna take this trip!”
  • Guilt over buying books (I’ve now added books in my monthly spending plan)
  • OneNote as my task manager (its note page has no end!)

Discarding things that, as Marie Kondo says, don’t “spark joy” can be daunting.

Until you just do it and feel the thorn getting plucked out of your sticky heart.
