It was more of a railroad trip.
Just last November my wife and I rode the Shinkansen to Kyoto from Tokyo. It was our first foreign trip together and Kyoto just blew my mind.
Highlights of the trip include:
- The blazing autumn foliage in Kiyomizu Temple and Tofuku-ji Temple
- The calming scenery at Tenryu-ji Temple’s garden
- The exhilarating Hozugawa river boat ride, which took us deep into the Japanese wilderness
- The mysteriously romantic streets of Gion at night
- The relaxing walk along Kamo River
- The grandeur of the hilly forest in Arashiyama
Thinking about the trip still takes me into a trance. The city is simply beautiful, a pure delight to the senses and the mind.
