If your place is short on space as ours is, it’s best to take advantage of long lines.
Say, you want the kitchen counter to look longer. Then remove all bulky objects from the counter. Emphasize the line spanning the length of the counter, and don’t let that line get broken by conspicuous appliances.
Obviously this is impossible. Especially for us. My fiancee loves cooking and has to have her stove and oven and rice cooker in place.
Our solution? We bought black appliances to blend them with the black counter. Voila — the kitchen now looks long and spacious. Even the dirt has miraculously disappeared! (Spoiler alert: They’re still there.)
Wisdom of the day: If you can’t get rid of things, at least make them invisible.
